packing list
After being on the island for just a few days, I could already tell how I would pack differently next time. Here are my suggestions for a decently thorough packing job for an 8 day trip! Remember to pack light for your weight restriction, roll clothes to make more space, and wear your heaviest clothes/shoes on the plane!
- 5 t-shirts
- 2 tank tops
- 4 shorts
- 2-3 swimsuits
- 2 towels
- sunscreen (The field station preferred we use rub-on. Make sure its waterproof/sweat proof, 30+ spf; I honestly recommend 70 for your face and 50 for your body; I applied 2-4 times a day and never got burnt!)
- aloe/lotion/after sun stuff (because no one listens to the sunscreen rule until its too late!)
- bug spray
- water shoes
- flip flops
- hat
- sunglasses
- snorkel gear (fins, mask + snorkel in snorkel bag)
- waterproof camera (even a disposable would be cool!)
- day bag (drawstring or small backpack or over the shoulder bag
- plastic bags for collecting stuff (sharpie too!)
- toiletries (Girls!- share shampoo, conditioner, soap, and toothpaste! It saved us space and weight when packing!)
- 1-2 nicer outfits (we taught for 2 days, conservative attire for the schools, shoulders covered and dresses knee length)
- day shoes/ tennis shoes (don't forget socks!)
- light jacket/ rain jacket (didn't rain on us, but these are handy for cold plane rides or cool nights!)
- wallet/ purse
- passport
- photo ID
- credit card (for baggage fee & emergencies)
- cash in small denominations ($100-200 for on the island, airport snacks, trinkets, etc)
- water bottle!!!! (keep this on you and refilled all the time, dehydration is no joke in this climate!)
- headphones
- phone + charger
- camera
-notebook/journal (keep track of class notes, but also your reaction to new experiences and record places you went!)
